About Save Point
Empowering Neurodivergent Young Adults Through Accessible, Low-Demand Social Spaces
Save Point Halifax CIC is a registered Community Interest Company dedicated to tackling social isolation among neurodivergent young adults aged 15 to 25.
For many individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurodivergent conditions, traditional social spaces and youth services can be overwhelmingly sensory and socially demanding. This friction often leads to severe burnout, anxiety, and eventual isolation. Save Point exists to remove those barriers. We provide a neuro-affirming “third space” in Halifax where young adults can build confidence, practice teamwork, and form genuine peer-to-peer support networks entirely at their own pace.
The Power of Parallel Play
We use the structured environment of tabletop roleplaying games (like Dungeons & Dragons) and board games as a vehicle for social inclusion.
Tabletop gaming is uniquely suited for neurodivergent individuals because it facilitates parallel play. Players are engaged in a shared activity with clear, predictable rules, which removes the pressure of forced small talk or sustained eye contact. The game provides a constant, safe focal point, allowing members to socialise and collaborate in a low-demand environment where they are fully in control of their participation level.
Built for Accessibility
Every aspect of Save Point is engineered to reduce sensory friction and promote a safe environment:
- Neuro-Affirming Operations: We utilise tools like “Save Point” pause cards, allowing players to communicate non-verbally when they need a break, without having to explain themselves or disrupt the session.
- Sensory-Conscious Equipment: From tactile hit-point trackers to our custom-manufactured, matte-finish accessible dice featuring OpenDyslexic fonts, we ensure the physical mechanics of gaming do not cause cognitive fatigue.
- A “Step-Down” Community: We are not a clinical therapy service. We provide vital community infrastructure, serving as an ideal social hub for young adults who have completed formal interventions (such as therapeutic gaming) and need a safe space to simply be themselves.
Our CIC Commitment
As a Community Interest Company, Save Point operates with a strict, legally binding asset lock. This means we are a socially-driven, non-profit-distributing organisation.
While we operate commercial avenues – such as the retail of our custom accessible dice and apparel brand – 100% of our surplus profits are reinvested directly back into the Halifax community hub. This hybrid model ensures commercial sustainability while keeping our physical gaming sessions heavily subsidised or completely free for the vulnerable young adults who need them most.
